I'm a big proponent of growing your own food and buying local whenever possible. Here's a list of some of the places that sell fresh produce and meats (and often local artisan's works as well) locally in Halifax/Dartmouth.

Friday International and Farmers’ Market : 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday Farmers’ Market : 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Sunday Farmers’ Market : 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Wednesday Market: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Halifax Brewery Farmers' Market
Lower Water Street, Downtown Halifax
Saturdays, year-round: 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Alderney Landing Farmer's Market
Alderney Landing Ferry Terminal, downtown Dartmouth
Saturdays: 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

'Local Freshness' Farmers' Market at Dartmouth Crossing
(in the South parking lot of The Shops (next to Globo Shoes)
Seasonally May to October
Fridays: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Harbourview Weekend Market
42 Canal Street, Dartmouth (former Value Village location)
Saturdays & Sundays: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
